# Modernism vs Postmodernism
[[Modernism]] is an encompassing label for a wide variety of cultural movements.
[[Postmodernism]] is a centralised movement that named itself, based on sociopolitical theory, and it says you can't pin down Modernism quite that well.
Not everything Modern is Postmodern, as Postmodernism rejects some of the "rationality is awesome" and "socio-technological progress" ideas in Modernism.
Most *"Modern Art"* galleries don't make a distinction between Modern and Postmodern art, seeing both as developments within Modern Art.
Did Postmodernism develop to escape Modernism becoming traditional? Or is Postmodernism an extension of Modernism? Rabbit holes...
