Use for fine cutting, and prepolish. **Advantages**: no recharging, continuous consistent action, flat, less fiddly to learn compared to hand-charged laps. No messy loose diamond or paste or oil, just use water. Less harsh, less scratching or chipping or subsurface damage than plated metal laps. **Disadvantages**: expensive, though good long life. Can be slower than plated laps (varies with brand) but better finish. ## Dreamer laps From Daniel Hu / Dreamer Faceting. Buy here: https://dreamerfaceting.com/dreamer/dream-lap/ Available in cut, fine cut, prepolish grits. I have 800 and 3k. Some helpful info from [here](https://facetingacademy.com/product/dreamer-lap/): > > **Testing and review videos**: > > [Resin-tech Lap Reviews: Introduction](https://youtu.be/DKysqObkv5g) > > [Resin-tech Laps #2: Hyper Edge 500 & Dreamer 800](https://youtu.be/JK6eu_vyx7c) > > [Resin-tech Laps #3: Hyper Edge & Dreamer 3000 & 8000](https://youtu.be/oH-2whRkmYs) > > [Resin-tech Laps #4 (and more): The Laps You Need and Want](https://youtu.be/ZI0cgv3wLi0) > > **Protips** > > DO NOT OVERSPEED the Dreamer lap: They are designed for use at speeds < 900 rpm (and higher speeds are not required or optimal). > > Use plenty of water with the Dreamer to keep swarf washed from the working surface. > > The Dreamer lap may be slightly domed from the factory. If you wish to flatten the dome (or de-glaze one that’s become shiny) you can resurface the lap using a flattening stone [as shown in this video](https://youtu.be/36OVWLsp0qg). ## HyperEdge laps From Ed Perry. Buy here: http://www.hyper-edge.com/products-faceting.html Available in cut, fine cut, prepolish and polish grades, right up to 50k (Dreamer only goes up to 3k). Significantly more expensive than Dreamer: almost twice the price for the cut and prepolish grades, comically expensive for the polish grades, as at 2023-08. Probably flatter than Dreamer. I haven't tried them. _May_ be able to go straight from 500 to polish. ## Raytech Shaw Old "NuBond" laps, no longer available, but used to be very popular for fine cut or prepolish. ## Others There are some other cheaper ones but I haven't tried them. Anecdotally, may have short life?
