# Font Creation Software
## Calligraphr
https://www.calligraphr.com/en/
**Create font from handwriting**: you *download an image or PDF, then draw each glyph in a box* - either by printing, writing and scanning back, or by editing in graphics software with a tablet stylus, which is what I did.
Has OpenType font "alternative characters" support: upload multiple glyphs of same character, for randomisation. Also ligatures.
Paid version (just a few dollars month-by-month) is required to do a full set of characters (e.g. full punctuation beyond just alphanumeric), ligatures, or alternative characters.
2021-06: Used this to create a handwriting font and it works rather well!
- The slightly fiddly part is manual adjustment of character spacing, after uploading the template. Not *required* but needed to get it looking right.
- If you stop subscription, but then wanted to tweak the font further, you won't lose the glyphs because you can just re-upload your previous template file, but you do lose all of that per-character config and would have to re-do it.
## FontForge
https://fontforge.org/en-US/
Free
2021-06-18: tried it, not updated for latest MacOS so it refuses to run it as unverified software
## FontCreator

$49/149/199 USD
2021-06-18: Sophisticated, great reviews, but expensive. Need the expensive version for commercial or full-features. Have not tried yet but would do so if I take this further.
