In some ways this is a sane response to [[How organisations are like slime mould]] - avoid escalation expense and coordination headwinds. It's great until: a) You discover that a hierarchy of teams emerged automatically, or that there's a hidden system of power. b) You need someone to figure out the common strategy to get all those bits to pull in the same direction, or to do something that requires coordination or consistency across lots of teams. Suddenly you need to impose a coordination mechanism across an unstructured chaos, and you need to negotiate and convince lots of people instead of have the hierarchy tell them what the goal is.
