tags: #publish links: [[Plant and Tree Species]], [[My Gardening]] created: 2021-10-03 Sun --- # Doryanthes palmeri - Giant spear lily The only other Doryanthes species alongside [[Doryanthes excelsa - Gymea lily]] This one has a droopy flower stalk, due to the weight of the flowers - *excelsa* is upright. Leaves up to 3m, width to 4m, flower stalk up to 5m Reddish-orange flowers. Anecdotally - each plant rosette only flowers once in its lifetime and this may take many years - but after that it may produce more rosettes. Bushfire snoke (possibly ethylene) encourages flowering. An alternative is to place a 50c-sized stone in the core of the growing point, which may encourage flowering next season.
