# How to get good honest feedback
https://medium.com/@mrabkin/awkward-1-1s-the-art-of-getting-honest-feedback-2843078b2880
(split from [[Awkward 1-1s]])
Notes on the article:
If you want to get good feedback from someone, you have to make it about *the feedback-giver's comfort* not yours.
## Make it wonderful to tell you hard shit
- Actually want the feedback.
- Give them a reason why you're asking.
- Tell them you know you have an issue and you want help: don't ask them to tell you whether you're failing or not, they'll flee in panic.
- Promise a good reaction - figure out what they're afraid of.
- Thank them in advance.
## Framing to make it easy to answer
- Multiple choice / what would you like more of, less of?
- Ask about how they feel about it
- Ask for an A-F grade
- Ask them to expand on someone else's feedback
## Reward
- Thank them after
- Let them see the action/changes that result
- Make sure your adjustments improve things for the feedback-giver
- Attribute the change to the feedback
