# Creation vs consumption
There is a different dynamic to creating vs consuming.
One difference: it supports evolving your own identity deliberately, rather than mostly via ingestion. This relates to [[Focus on Identity over Outcome]].
This blog captures the experience (and frustration, and reward!) of starting to deliberately shift one's mindset towards more creation: https://blog.tjcx.me/p/consume-less-create-more
This is basically why I [[Meta - Why publish my notes|publish these notes]].
What is possible? Well, see [[Corín Tellado]]'s incredibly prolific writing career for some inspiration!
Social media tends to hijack this stuff and direct the creative urge into something that actually looks more like consumption: [[Social media gamification and addictiveness]].
And then, even worse: [[Social media addictiveness can be improved if you don't force the user to commit to the identity represented by their real preferences]]
